Vodak-East Side (#9)

BEN: Ever the Opportunists (see what I did there?), we made a quick stop on the way home from Michigan to check off Vodak-East Side, the easternmost branch of CPL.

The East Side neighborhood, named perhaps for its location relative to the city or to the Calumet River, was shaped by industrial development and the steel industry, like much of South Chicago. The branch opened in 2006 and bears the name of local community leader James F. Vodak.

Major props on the book-themed bike rack outside the branch!

SAM: We met librarian Marilyn, who has been working at this branch for the last 13 years and grew up in the neighborhood. She highlighted the tight-knit community of patrons and kids who utilize the library during the after school hours, their Sunday movie series, and youth book club.

BEN: Marilyn also recommended a treat at the Neveria across the street, which Nathan was happy to visit!

DANIEL: The Vodak/East Side Branch is accessible by CTA Bus Routes #30 and #100. The “L” is a bit more tricky. The closest station is 95th/Dan Ryan Red Line, where you can take CTA Bus Routes #95 and #30 to the library.

If you are into Metra more than the CTA, take the Metra Electric to South Chicago (93rd) Station, and you can take the CTA Bus Route #30 to the library.

Does the Vodak/East Side Branch have a parking lot? YES!!!

Final Review: 4/5
